In Maryland a challenge to the validity of a will is referred to as a "caveat." A petition to caveat a will may be filed at anytime within six (6) months following the date of the first appointment of a personal representative (executor) under a will. A proceeding may be reopened within eighteen (18) months of the decedent's death if the court finds sufficient facts to justify such reopening.
